Part of the tour takes place on the street. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
What do we know about the Georgian Military Highway? Pushkin traveled this road on his way to Arzrum, followed by Ostap Bender and Kisa Vorobyaninov, and more recently, countless cyclists. In fact, the Military Georgian Road is an incredible combination of engineering technology and the most unexpected and fascinating facts. It is a road that for several millennia served as the main route through the Caucasus, both for conquerors and, more importantly, for merchants and travelers. Each section of the road has its own history and unique attractions.
This route exists thanks to the unique geological relief and, at the same time, seems to defy the laws of nature. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful mountain roads in the world, which can also be comfortably driven by car. Deep gorges, snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and mountain rivers—there is probably no other place in the Caucasus where you can experience all of this in one day.
This eventful one-day trip covers 150 km there and 150 km back.
We will see:
- The Zhinvali Hydroelectric Power Station and the blue reservoir of the Aragvi mountain river;
- The Ananuri Fortress complex;
- The confluence of two rivers with black and white water;
- An ancient 14th-century high-mountain monastery;
- Mineral springs;
- The 5,000-meter-high Kazbegi.
